Singer-songwriter Raya Yarbrough will performing at LACMA this Friday in its free drive time concert.
This 20-something has been a winner of the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Composition program and has performed her original music on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. She has also opened for Terence Blanchard in New York, been featured at the Los Angeles Music Center, at Thelonius Monk Institute events and performed at the Playboy Jazz Festival.
Jazz critic Don Heckman has described her voice as "a pliable, versatile instrument, an effective vehicle for a musical expression that ranges freely from pop-style ballad to surprisingly effective scat singing."
