Alfredo Rodriguez

This young (b.1985) Cuban pianist and Quincy Jones protege made his American debut at the Playboy Jazz Festival in June where he blew the house away. Tonight, he's performing at Vibrato.

The story of his defection from Cuba and political asylum in the United States sounds like the treatment for a feature film: The young artist makes the difficult decision to leave his homeland and his family, he makes his attempt while performing a concert in Mexico. He is arrested and is about to be sent back to Cuba, but is released several hours later by a sympathic Mexican official. The young artist goes to Los Angeles where he hooks up with Quincy Jones. Fame, success and fortune follow and the end credits roll.

People are going to be listening to Alfredo Rodriguez for many years to come. Look at this video and then to listen to our conversation with Alfredo, click here
