The great Miles Davis was never hesitant to express his admiration for pianist Ahmad Jamal especially for Jamal's sense of space. Davis even went so far as to ask his own pianists to try to imitate Jamal's style.
Davis was not alone. Jamal's use of rhythm and space, percussive chording and multi-tonal melodic lines have been an inspiration to Keith Jarrett, Jack DeJohnette and Gary Peacock and many others.
Now 79, Jamal still tours performing with his trio.
